The 2025 STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) Students and Teachers for the Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS) were announced at the Kiwanis Club of Griffin luncheon today. They are:
Griffin High School (GHS)
Gavin Smith– STAR Student
Jada Ingram - STAR Teacher
Spalding High School (SHS)
Claire Daniels - STAR Student
Dr. Chris Godat - STAR Teacher
To be named a STAR student, a high school senior must have the highest score on any single test date of the SAT taken through the November test date of their senior year and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average. The STAR teacher is selected by the declared high school STAR student for making the most significant contribution to their academic development.

On February 8th, 2025, the Griffin High School Choral department participated in the 9th Annual Black Heritage Festival at the Griffin Auditorium. The festival is organized and founded by Mrs. Rosalyn W. Payne-Hill. After the GHS Chorus performed at the Black Heritage Festival, they received a gracious donation of 6000 dollars. The GHS Chorus is very grateful for this donation and opportunity to be a part of something so great in the community.

On Feb. 10, at Griffin High School, Mayor Doug Holberg issued a proclamation from the Griffin City Commissioners naming February CTAE month. GHS CTAE students spoke about the history of Career & Technical Education and how it has impacted them. #CTAEMonth #CTAEDelivers

The Griffin/Spalding Black Heritage Festival, founded by Rosalyn Payne-Hill, was held on Feb. 8. Griffin High and Spalding High Choruses performed, bringing the whole auditorium together with their final song, "We Are the World!" Both GHS & SHS received $6,000 to support their choral programs. Congratulations to GHS Senior Band Student Janiya White and SHS Senior Chorus and Theatre Student April Bama who received $1,000 scholarships for their winning essays on "How music affects our community." Thank you to the Griffin/Spalding Black Heritage Festival Committee for supporting and investing in our schools and students!

My name is Dr. Dedrey Elam and I am your GHS Graduation Coach!
2nd semester after school credit recovery has started and scholars can sign up. Please check your school email for the sign-up link. All assignments will be completed via Edgenuity. Credit recovery sessions will be Monday - Thursday from 3:45 p.m. - 5:45 p.m. in the GHS media center and Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. via Google meet. Attendance to all sessions is mandatory for credit. Scholars must sign up to participate as this is the responsibility of the scholar. If scholars are unsure what course(s) they need, they can send me an email or setup an appointment to meet with me.
